More than 100 volunteers from the Drakenstein, Franschoek and greater Cape Town areas worked over the weekend of 11- 12 September to help complete the finishings and food garden for the Enza Skills Centre in Mbekweni. What a transformation! We managed to complete the painting, create a beautiful food garden, clean up the surrounding municipal green area as well as sand and varnish desks.
We now also have a fully fitted kitchen, computer workstations, built in cupboards and shelving, notice boards and white boards, beautiful blinds, some stunning crockery and household items. With the generous support of numerous organisations and the “sweat” of the many volunteers we are now a giant step closer to achieving our dream to help change the destiny of underprivileged women in the community by assisting them in becoming economically active and self sufficient.
A big thank you must go to the wonderful team from New Kidz on the Block who helped facilitate this weekend for us – Mike, Hilda, Jurgen and Terence. We know how much work and went into organising this weekend and we are so grateful!
Thanks to all the volunteers – your enthusiasm and hard work were remarkable. Many went home with blisters, sunburn and aching muscles as part of their commitment to social change and upliftment! Amongst the many volunteers were family members and friends, staff and family members and friends from KWV, Claytile, Paarl Methodist church as well as Bridge House students and parents.
Thanks to all our sponsors:
