Enza Empowering Women is a non-profit training and skills, income generation as well as enterprise development organisation, working with underprivileged women in the Mbekweni area between Paarl and Wellington near Cape Town.

In South Africa, 48% of women are unemployed and 68% of children live below the poverty line (UNICEF 2010 report on South Africa). Of all mothers in South Africa, 40% are single and unemployment rates for single mothers are over 60%. Less than 50% of father’s contribute anything towards their child’s welfare.

Our Vision is to be a catalyst for eradicating poverty amongst the women in the communities within which we operate.

Although no official statistics are currently available regarding unemployment and the demographics of the community in which we operate, unemployment in this community is the highest amongst women most of whom are single mothers. Unemployment in women is linked to children living in poverty. Our philosophy is thus based on our belief that ‘if you help a woman, you are also helping a child’.

Our Mission is to provide skills training which empowers underprivileged women to take charge of their lives, to provide for themselves and thereby build a better future for themselves and their families

We assist underprivileged women in gaining the perspective that they are personally responsible for their own prosperity and equip them with the necessary skills to take charge of their own prosperity. We open their minds to choosing where they want to be and help them to be proud of who they are.

All our activities are aimed to reinforce the values of an ENZA Woman:

Purpose, resilience, responsibility, respect and growth

We Offer:
• Life skills training which includes computer skills training and other development opportunities
• English Literacy Classes – aimed to improve English communication skills
• Enterprise Development Programmes

We assist those with no income stream in sourcing employment and job experience opportunities as well as other income generating opportunities.
